Third Prompt

After watching the advertisements provided, it was interesting to see the different techniques used by each company to portray to their intended audience. In the Budweiser advertisement, the company uses the strategy music, to attract the younger generation in their product. This commercial is posted in what's known as a happy time in history, as it's the end of prohibition and WW1. Budweiser uses a pop based song, which is music listened by mostly the younger generation at the time, to connect with the members of society that are becoming at age to drink alcohol. By using this music, it connects directly with the younger audience, in an effort to persuade them, that is product is made for their generation.

In the Life Cereal advertisement, the company does a great job at reaching out towards parents. As a parent, it can be difficult to feed your child healthy food items, and Life promises a good taste, to make the kid feel happy. In a quote from the advertisement, "When you bring Life home, don't tell the kids its one of those nutritional cereals you've been trying to get them to eat, your the only one that has to know." Life does a great job at connecting with parents, and showing they have a understanding of what kids will enjoy. They promise a good tasting cereal, that's healthy, and something the kids will enjoy.

In the Colin Kaepernick advertisement, the company does a great job at reaching out towards the younger generation of kids. Nike tells the younger generation to strive towards their goals, as you can accomplish anything you put your mind too. The younger generation will really love this commercial, as it not only boosts their self esteem, but it tells them the truth behind their life. The reality Nike is trying to explain, is don't settle for something once you accomplish it, try to strive better. In a quote from the advertisement, "Don't settle for homecoming queen or linebacker, aspire for both." This quote, tells a lot, in a just a few words. This quote is portraying that a girl can do anything that a man can do, and if she puts her mind to it, she can accomplish anything she aspires to complete.

It's very important as readers and listeners, to understand the true meaning behind an advertisement. There's a lot of propaganda in advertisements, and its easy to understand why. Their are several companies fighting for the same type of product, and each has to try and gain advantage over another. Sometimes companies will simply say their product is better, but often they use techniques that can be hard to recognize. We must keep a clear mind, and deeply understand the meaning behind the words portrayed in the advertisement, as if we don't, we will continue to become trapped in the lies of false advertising.

Second Prompt

After reading Chapter 1 of Hjortshoj's book, "The Transition to College Writing", I often found myself supporting many of his claims. Throughout my first semester as a college student, I had to learn how to be flexible with my time and be on high alert for incoming circumstances. I also had to learn many other successful skills, such as concrete studying skills, managing my studying locations, and the importance behind writing in a professional way. Personally, I thought my high school did a poor job in preparing me for college. My school made college seem like a haunting, and extremely difficult place, but after completing my first college semester, I can tell them it's not as extreme as they pronounce it to be. As the fall semester began, it wasn't very difficult to get my schedule mapped out and get myself organized to be as successful as I possibly could be. The semester went as great as I could ever imagine, as I managed to make the Dean's list, with a p...
